Our Approach
Personalized Support
Every person and family is different, and we honour that.
We take time to get to know you and your family. We create therapy plans that match your needs and your goals. Our sessions are flexible, caring, and focused on what is most important to you.
Our goal is to help you grow, build skills, and take part in everyday life in ways that feel good for your family.
Connected and Caring
At Towns Physiotherapy, we care about you and your child. We work hard to create a warm and safe space where you feel heard and supported.
We listen to your story and learn what matters most to your family. We are here to guide and encourage you every step of the way as your child grows and learns new skills.
Care in Your Everyday Life
We believe therapy should fit into your child’s daily life. We can work with your child at home or in the community—where they feel most comfortable.
This helps us create simple ideas and activities that are easy to use every day. Families can continue supporting their child between visits in ways that feel natural and doable.

In-Home Physiotherapy

We know that where therapy takes place can make a big difference. Our in-home sessions are designed to support your goals in your own everyday environment.
By working in your home, we can create simple and practical strategies that fit naturally into your daily routine. This makes it easier to continue progress between visits in ways that feel manageable and meaningful.
During in-home visits, we may use a variety of therapy approaches, such as:
-
Guided movement and exercise to build strength and coordination
-
Balance and walking practice in real-life spaces
-
Positioning and seating support for comfort and function
-
Stretching and range-of-motion activities
-
Play-based activities for children to support skills in a fun way
-
Practice of everyday tasks like moving around the home or getting in and out of chairs/bed/shower, etc.
In-home sessions are also a helpful option for busy families and for individuals who may find it difficult to travel or access community spaces. Our goal is to make care as comfortable, supportive, and accessible as possible.
Equipment Prescriptions

Many mobility goals involve the use of supportive equipment. Tools such as manual and power wheelchairs, walkers, standers, and scooters can help children and adults take part more fully in daily activities at home and in the community.
As an approved authorizer with Ontario’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP), we can support you through the process of applying for funding to help cover the cost of this important equipment. We take the time to understand your needs and help you choose options that feel right for you or your family member.
We work closely with trusted local equipment providers in the Durham Region and stay up to date with new advances in assistive technology. Our goal is to make the process as smooth, supportive, and clear as possible, so you feel confident every step of the way.
Learning to Use Equipment with Confidence
We take time to make sure you or your family member feel comfortable and confident using your equipment. We provide hands-on support and clear guidance, so you know how to use your equipment safely and effectively in everyday life.
Training may include:
-
Learning how to move and position safely
-
Adjusting equipment for comfort and proper fit
-
Practicing movements at home, such as getting in and out of chairs or moving through doorways
-
Tips for daily use at home, school, work, or in the community
As confidence grows, we can also support more advanced skills, such as using equipment in different environments. This may include navigating sidewalks, uneven surfaces, busy public spaces, or community outings.
Our goal is to help you feel safe, confident, and supported—so you can take part more fully in the activities that matter most.
Community Physiotherapy

Life often takes us beyond the home, and many goals focus on taking part in the community. To best support your needs, we also offer therapy sessions in real-life settings where you or your family member spend time.
This may include places like work, a community centre, a park, or a grocery store. By working in these environments, we can build practical skills and strategies that feel meaningful and easy to carry into everyday life.
During community sessions, therapy may include:
-
Practicing safe and confident walking or wheelchair use in real spaces
-
Navigating sidewalks, curbs, ramps, and uneven surfaces
-
Building endurance and confidence for longer outings
-
Practicing community tasks like shopping, ordering food, or carrying items
-
Using public spaces safely, such as busy stores or recreation areas
-
Working on balance and coordination in outdoor environments
-
Practicing transitions, such as getting in and out of vehicles or seating in public spaces
We do our best to meet you where you are, providing care that is flexible, supportive, and centered around your daily experiences.
Pool Physiotherapy

Pool therapy is a fun and supportive way to work on movement and strength. The natural buoyancy of water helps take pressure off the body, making it easier to practice movements that may feel harder on land.
The water also provides gentle resistance, which can help build strength, improve balance, and support core control in a safe and comfortable way. For many children and adults, the pool can be a relaxed and enjoyable place to learn new skills and build confidence.
During pool therapy sessions, we may focus on:
-
Building strength through gentle water resistance
-
Practicing balance and stability in a safe, supported environment
-
Improving walking or movement patterns with less pressure on joints
-
Increasing range of motion and flexibility
-
Working on core strength and postural control
-
Supporting coordination through guided movements and activities
-
Using play-based activities for children to encourage learning and engagement
Pool therapy can also support important goals such as improving confidence with movement, increasing participation in activities, and helping individuals feel more comfortable and independent.
It can be especially helpful for those recovering from surgery, illness, or injury, or for anyone who benefits from a low-impact environment.
Sessions take place at local community pools, allowing you or your family member to practice skills in a supportive and accessible setting.
